The Traveler's Handbook

Traveler charter & practical platform guide

Download as PDF

Welcome

Traveling with Elsewhere isn't booking a room: it's being welcomed by the person who lives there and, often, creates there. This handbook gathers the spirit in which we want these stays to unfold, and the concrete rules that make them possible — for a night, a workshop, or an entire retreat.

It's deliberately short. You already know how to behave as a guest — what follows embodies what Elsewhere seeks to preserve: trust, fulfillment and visibility, for you as much as for the person hosting you.

The charter

Five principles, not five rules

Curiosity as a starting point

Staying with an artist means accepting that you won't know everything in advance. Stay open to what you'll discover, beyond what the listing describes.

Respect for a place of life and creation

You're not sleeping in a hotel: you're being welcomed into someone's home, their studio, their everyday life. Treat this place — and this work — with the same care you'd give your own.

Honesty, in both directions

What you share about your expectations before the stay, and about your experience afterward, helps every host welcome the next travelers even better.

Trust, never forced

Contact details, messaging, precise location: every piece of information reaches you exactly when it's actually useful — never before, never forced.

Difference as richness, not as an obstacle

Every host has their own language, customs, and pace. Elsewhere exists in several languages so that this difference can be crossed, never erased.

The practical guide

What you're booking

Every listing belongs to one of these four formats — know what it includes before sending your request.

FormatWhat it includes
Room at the artist's placeLodging only, no workshop or class
Artistic experience onlyMasterclass, workshop or coaching/mentoring — no lodging included
Lodging + Artistic experienceBoth combined in the same stay
Art RetreatLodging + experience, in fixed-date sessions with limited spots

Booking & cancellation

Your request must be confirmed by the host before it becomes final — no booking happens automatically.

Without cancellation insurance, a cancelled stay is not refunded, regardless of the reason or notice given. Adding it to your booking (+10% of the stay price) applies the listing's own refund policy — flexible, moderate or strict, whichever the host chose — if you cancel. The cost of the insurance itself is never refunded.

Trust & safety

Before publishing a listing, every host must have their identity verified and submit their documents (diploma, portfolio, studio lease...) — you never book with an unverified profile.

Internal messaging remains the main channel with your host, before and after booking. If you've both entered and turned on your phone number, it's revealed to you — and yours to the host — in the 24 hours before the stay, provided the booking hasn't been cancelled.

The location stays approximate (an area of about one kilometer) until your booking is confirmed — the precise address then appears on the listing.

Traveling as a group

When booking, specify the number of adults and children traveling, and their ages — purely practical information that doesn't affect the price, but helps the host welcome you properly. Every listing states the maximum number of travelers it can host.

Payment

Payment goes through Stripe, at the moment the host confirms your booking — your bank details never pass directly through Elsewhere.

Reviews

Once your stay is over, you can leave a review — a rating and a comment — on the listing. It stays publicly visible, and helps future travelers as much as the host.

Referrals

Invite a friend: you each receive €20 of traveler credit once their first booking is completed.

A question, a doubt

We're here to help

A word from the founder

Welcome to Elsewhere,

Elsewhere was born from a simple conviction: art is a universal language that brings people, cultures and places closer together.

I imagined this platform to create authentic encounters between passionate artists and travelers in search of human, creative and inspiring experiences. Here, lodging isn't just a place to sleep; it becomes a doorway into an artistic world, a craft, a story and an encounter.

Through this platform, I want to offer artists a new space to share their work, showcase their hospitality and grow their activity, while allowing travelers to discover a destination differently: at the pace of creation, exchange and curiosity.

Elsewhere is an invitation to slow down, to learn, to build connections and to live experiences that transform and leave a lasting mark.

This adventure is only just beginning. It will grow through the artists who open the doors to their world, and the travelers who choose authenticity over simply consuming a trip.

Thank you for your trust, and welcome to this community.

The founder, Dr. Nell
