Welcome
Elsewhere exists for a simple reason: there's no better way to discover an art form than being welcomed by the person who practices it. This handbook gathers the spirit in which we want these encounters to happen, and the concrete rules that make them possible — room, workshop, retreat, whatever the format, as long as the welcome stays genuine.
It's deliberately short. You don't need a rulebook to know how to host — you already know that. What follows embodies what Elsewhere seeks to preserve: trust, fulfillment and visibility.
The charter
Opening your door means opening up a little of your studio and your everyday life. Welcome others the way you'd like to be welcomed — with attention, without staging.
What's described in the listing must match what's actually experienced on site. An honest listing is always worth more than a perfect one.
Identity verification, internal messaging, contact details revealed at the right moment — every step exists so that travelers and hosts meet with confidence, never blindly.
An artistic retreat isn't a minute-by-minute schedule. Leaving room, silence, and free time — that's hospitality too.
What you pass on — a gesture, a technique, a story — matters as much as what you house. Elsewhere exists to fairly compensate both.
The practical guide
Every listing picks one of these four formats. Elsewhere's commission never applies the same rate to lodging and to the artistic experience — that's deliberate: passing on a skill is valued differently from renting out a room.
Three types of artistic experience: masterclass, workshop, coaching/mentoring. It's up to you to specify which one matches what you offer.
| Format | What it includes | Commission |
|---|---|---|
| Room at the artist's place | Lodging only | 25% |
| Artistic experience only | Masterclass, workshop or coaching/mentoring — no lodging | 15% |
| Lodging + Experience | Both combined, each at its own rate | 25% + 15% |
| Art Retreat | Lodging + experience, in fixed-date sessions with limited spots | 25% + 15% |
Every request goes through you first: nothing is confirmed without your approval. Once confirmed, a booking locks in its dates — two travelers can never end up on the same slot.
The traveler can add, on their own initiative, optional cancellation insurance (+10% of the stay price). That amount stays entirely with Elsewhere — it never reduces or increases what you receive.
Before publishing a listing, your identity must be verified (ID + selfie, through a dedicated external provider) and your documents submitted — diploma, portfolio, studio lease, whatever makes sense for your activity.
Internal messaging remains the main channel with a traveler, before and after booking. If you've entered and turned on your phone number, it's revealed to the traveler — and you receive theirs — only in the 24 hours before the stay, and only if the booking hasn't been cancelled: never before, never without your consent.
Payments go through Stripe. Your share is calculated after commission and paid into your account — you can track every transaction and download your annual statement from your dashboard.
Invite another artist to Elsewhere: you receive a free month as soon as their subscription becomes active, and they get a 60-day trial instead of 30.
The Basic tier lets you offer a room; offering an artistic experience (workshop, masterclass, coaching) requires at least the Standard tier.
| Tier | Perks |
|---|---|
| Basic | 5 photos, room only |
| Standard | 15 photos, artistic experiences, 1 visible external link |
| Premium | 30 photos, 3 external links, "certified profile" badge, search boost |
| Elite | Unlimited photos, unlimited links, certified & best-host badges, maximum boost, intro video |
A question, a doubt
A word from the founder
Welcome to Elsewhere,
Elsewhere was born from a simple conviction: art is a universal language that brings people, cultures and places closer together.
I imagined this platform to create authentic encounters between passionate artists and travelers in search of human, creative and inspiring experiences. Here, lodging isn't just a place to sleep; it becomes a doorway into an artistic world, a craft, a story and an encounter.
Through this platform, I want to offer artists a new space to share their work, showcase their hospitality and grow their activity, while allowing travelers to discover a destination differently: at the pace of creation, exchange and curiosity.
Elsewhere is an invitation to slow down, to learn, to build connections and to live experiences that transform and leave a lasting mark.
This adventure is only just beginning. It will grow through the artists who open the doors to their world, and the travelers who choose authenticity over simply consuming a trip.
Thank you for your trust, and welcome to this community.
